{"id":35931,"date":"2019-07-27T13:00:49","date_gmt":"2019-07-27T11:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bilingueanglais.com\/blog\/?p=35931"},"modified":"2026-08-15T16:49:25","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T14:49:25","slug":"differences-anglais-americain-britannique","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bilingueanglais.com\/blog\/35931\/differences-anglais-americain-britannique\/","title":{"rendered":"Les diff\u00e9rences entre anglais britannique et am\u00e9ricain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>L'anglais, comme toutes les langues, a des variantes, des diff\u00e9rences de prononciation, diff\u00e9rents accents, etc. Ce qui est particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ressant est que <strong>l'anglais a deux variantes standards<\/strong>, tout aussi correctes l'une que l'autre, et quasiment parfaitement interchangeables : il s'agit bien s\u00fbr de <strong>l'anglais am\u00e9ricain et l'anglais britannique<\/strong> !<\/p>\n<p>Avant de commencer, il est extr\u00eamement important de pr\u00e9ciser que les termes \u00ab anglais am\u00e9ricain \u00bb et \u00ab anglais britannique \u00bb sont tr\u00e8s vagues ! Il existe des dizaines d'accents am\u00e9ricains diff\u00e9rents parl\u00e9s aux \u00c9tats-Unis et peut-\u00eatre m\u00eame encore davantage de variantes d'anglais britanniques parl\u00e9es au Royaume-Uni. <\/p>\n<p>Habituellement, quand on parle d'<span lang=\"en\">American English<\/span>, il s'agit du <strong><span lang=\"en\">General American English<\/span><\/strong>, l'accent et dialecte am\u00e9ricain que l'on entend aux informations, dans la plupart des films, mais que tous les Am\u00e9ricains n'utilisent pas exactement. C'est la forme standardis\u00e9e de l'anglais am\u00e9ricain, la plus neutre, que l'on apprend \u00e0 l'\u00e9cole et que nous enseignons sur <a href=\"\/\">BilingueAnglais<\/a> et dans <a href=\"https:\/\/bilingueanglais.com\/decouvrez-clicknspeak\/\">Click &amp; Speak<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>La situation est similaire (ou \u00ab pire \u00bb) avec le <span lang=\"en\">British English<\/span>. Le terme habituellement utilis\u00e9 pour d\u00e9signer la forme standardis\u00e9e de l'anglais britannique, s'appelle <strong><span lang=\"en\">Received Pronunciation<\/span><\/strong> ; on peut l'entendre... avant tout sur la BBC, en toute honn\u00eatet\u00e9. Tr\u00e8s peu de locuteurs natifs (environ 2%) utilisent cette forme d'anglais et presque chaque ville a son propre dialecte ! En soi, la situation n'est pas tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rente du fran\u00e7ais : il y a le fran\u00e7ais de m\u00e9tropole, avec ses nombreux accents, mais aussi le fran\u00e7ais qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois, \u00e0 la fois similaire et tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rent !<\/p>\n<p>Cela peut sembler un peu d\u00e9courageant d'avoir tant de sortes d'anglais, mais je vous promets que l'on s'y habitue rapidement, et d'ici peu de temps, vous irez encore plus loin et vous int\u00e9resserez m\u00eame aux <a href=\"\/blog\/rubriques\/dialectes-accents-anglais\/\">diff\u00e9rents dialectes anglais parl\u00e9s aux quatre coins du monde<\/a> !<\/p>\n<p>Mais chaque chose en son temps. (On dit que l'accent est <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/rhotique\"><em>rhotique<\/em><\/a>). <\/p>\n<p>A l'inverse, en anglais britannique standard (<em>Received Pronunciation<\/em>), comme dans la plupart des <a href=\"https:\/\/bilingueanglais.com\/blog\/rubriques\/dialectes-accents-anglais\/\">accents anglais<\/a>, on ne prononce PAS les R en fin de mots. Donc, il demande <span lang=\"en\">Excuse me, can I have some chips, please?<\/span>. Et le serveur lui donne des... chips. <\/p>\n<p>Si on dit <span lang=\"en\">chips<\/span> au Royaume-Uni, ce sont des <em>frites<\/em> et si on veut la m\u00eame chose aux \u00c9tats-Unis, il faudrait utiliser le mot <span lang=\"en\">(French) fries<\/span>. Eh oui, des \u00ab frites fran\u00e7aises \u00bb ...<\/p>\n<p>Il y a donc des mots qui existent dans les deux dialectes mais qui signifient des choses diff\u00e9rentes, mais aussi des mots qui n'existent que dans un seul pays.
